Last week I posted on the awesome cosmetics database, Skin Deep, where you find out how safe and effective different brands of sunscreen are.
I thought I'd share with you some of my favorite mineral-based SPF cosmetics this week. What they all have in common are two mineral-based active ingredients, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These ingredients physically block UVB and UVA rays, rather than chemically blocking them as agents like avobenzone do.
Minerals used to make sunscreen chalky, but thanks to nanotechnology that's no longer the case (nano particles are safe in sunscreen creams, but be careful not to inhale powders and sprays).

Lately I've been trying the Peter Thomas Roth skincare line. I've been so happy with the Uber-Dry Sunscreen, I'm trying their Instant Mineral SPF 30 as well.
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer is one of my favorite SPF-added cosmetics. I'll layer this over a sunscreen. I appreciate a little extra sun protection and it is an overall great primer.
I love multi-tasking cosmetics, especially in the summer. The Supernatural Poreless, Flawless, Tinted foundation primer by Philosophy combines an oil-free moisturizer with a bit of tint and SPF coverage. This looks great and works for when I'm not planning on spending a lot of time outdoors.
Moms, you might like Mustela Sun Cream for Sensitive Areas SPF 50 for your kids -- or for yourself. I use it all the time. It's fragrance-free, water-resistant, and sweat-proof, which makes it a good sunscreen for runners and anyone else trying to take more than five steps on a 90-degree day...
And you're remembering to re-apply our sunscreen every few hours, right? It's easy to forget sometimes, I know. But it's important!
By the way, shipping is always free at Smashbox.

This is quite a comprehensive compilation of some really good mineral sun screen lotions. It would help me to decide which one to go for. :D
